Repurpose & Reuse

Reusing buildings is a sustainable practice that can reduce the environmental impact of construction and demolition. We have successfully reused and repurposed buildings for generations as it is both environmentally friendly and cost-conscious. Buildings in use in the 1950s are being reused with little modification.

Reusing buildings as they were intended has reduced a significant amount of waste that would have been otherwise generated by construction and demolition. CO2 emissions already embodied within existing buildings would not be lost through demolition.

Kaplan Properties, Inc. - Renewable Energy Solutions

Our strategy of reuse far exceeds the sustainability goals of the most cutting-edge LEED construction practices and similar environmentally focused commercial real estate practices.

Renewables for Brighter Future

A growing number of healthcare facilities are looking to achieve energy independence as environmental challenges increase. Installing solar panels in a pediatric medical facility was a winning proposition. Solar panels generate energy from sunlight which promotes the use of renewable energy. In addition to being environmentally friendly, the solar panels significantly reduced energy costs to the pediatric practice and provided a reliable source of electricity.

In 2021 we installed our first rooftop-mounted solar array to produce all the electricity being used by our tenant at the property!

In 2022, we added electric vehicles to our fleet. EVs can help reduce greenhouse gas and carbon emissions and keep our air clean. EVs are cost-effective for our business as they require less maintenance and have lower fuel costs. In 2024, we are adding EV charging stations at industrial properties to support the use of clean energy. Adding EV charging infrastructure at industrial properties helps to create an equitable charging experience for all users. We strive to create a convenient, reliable, and affordable charging of electric vehicles for all factory and warehouse tenants.

In 2023, we purchased almost 300 acres of forest. Owning a forest is a sustainable practice that meets our mission to create a sustainable environment. Forests absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and provide habitat for wildlife. Working with a professional forester allows us to develop strategies to maintain the health of the forest. The younger trees absorb more carbon dioxide but the older trees have a greater capacity to store more carbon over time.

These projects underscore our commitment to the environment of tomorrow in a real tangible manner.
